As women go through childbearing, hormonal changes and aging, which can result in loss of vaginal tightness and they can experience changes in their genitalia.. Changes that can impact a woman's quality of life include vaginal laxity, stress urinary incontinence, loss of vaginal lubrication, a decrease in erotic sensation and loss of tone of the labia majora.

Nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation treatments can help to reverse these changes.

How does laser work?

Aphrodite is a CO2 laser device that delivers energy into the lining of the vaginal canal in a controlled manner. The energy emitted by the small probe is absorbed by tissue inside the vagina. Subsequently, existing collagen strands in the area contract. After initial contraction, the minor ablation that occurs during treatment leads to new collagen production that progressively remodels the mucous epithelium layer of the vagina. The same, gentle laser energy that provokes internal tightening may also refine the shape of external genitalia. Internal and external treatments may be performed in the same office visit.

Benefits of Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal rejuvenation corrects vaginal relaxation, tightening the vagina to enhance sexual gratification for the patient.

This is achieved by reducing the external diameter of the vagina and tightening the internal muscles to a patient’s specifications, thereby increasing friction experienced during intercourse

What are the symptoms associated with vaginal laxity?

Symptoms include loss of sensation with intercourse and decreased sexual satisfaction. Vaginal laxity can lead to a negative impact on female sexual function, body image and quality of life. The condition is poorly recognized and frequently under-reported.

Why do the labia majora lose tone?

The labia majora can lose tone and volume with age, pregnancy and hormonal changes. With significant laxity, a board-certified plastic surgeon should evaluate the labia majora to determine if they have too much skin and/or too little volume.

How can the appearance of the labia majora be improved?

If the problem is volume loss, a small amount of fat or filler can be injected into each side to recreate the fullness that has been lost.

laser energy can tighten the skin of the labia majora, resulting in a visible change that occurs right away.

Will I need anesthesia during or after the RF or laser treatment?

Laser treatment of the vaginal canal may be done without anesthesia, but external treatment is typically done with topical anesthesia.

Will I need pain pills afterward?

There is typically minimal to no tenderness  laser treatment. Typically patients don’t need post-treatment medications.
